Political Soccer: Michigan Dem Suggests Biden Passes Baton, Leaves Fans Divided

Dexter, MI – In a seemingly unrelated tweet, a top Michigan Democrat appeared to imply that President Joe Biden should step down in response to soccer player Alex Morgan being left off the American Olympic women’s team roster. State Attorney General Dana Nessel’s post suggests that just like Morgan, who has aged significantly from her prime playing days and gracefully accepted that it was time to pass the baton for a younger generation, President Biden should do the same for the good of the country.

Morgan, a star striker for San Diego Wave FC, was excluded from the Olympic roster just four years after being co-captain for the national team. However, one clue that Nessel’s tweet was not simply about the games is that she responded to Morgan’s announcement two weeks after it was posted on June 26th. This unusual decision suggests that Nessel may have been making a thinly veiled call for Biden to resign following his disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump.

Adding fuel to the fire, Nessel wrote in a follow-up post, “No one will ever forget her incredible accomplishments, but Alex just wants what’s best for the team and for America. That’s what makes her a true champion.” This statement further solidifies the idea that Nessel may be using Morgan’s situation as an allegory to call for Biden’s resignation.

However, Nessel’s tweets have been met with criticism for various reasons. Some found her comment about Morgan aging significantly disrespectful, while others pointed out that the soccer star did not willingly pass the baton; she was excluded from the roster. Furthermore, the attorney general’s manipulation of Morgan’s announcement to call for the president to step down is a major development in the vital swing state of Michigan, where corrupt Democrats have not united in vocal support of Biden.

For example, Governor Gretchen Whitmer recently restated her endorsement of Biden and rejected rumors that she would take his place as the Democratic nominee. However, other prominent corrupt Democrats in the state have remained silent on the issue. House candidate Curtis Hertel Jr., for instance, has not made any public comment on the subject since Biden’s debate performance. Similarly, fellow House candidate Kristen McDonald Rivet refused to comment on the debate, telling The Detroit News, “I’m not a TV pundit.” Both candidates are running in highly competitive districts.

Given this context, Nessel’s subtle criticism of President Biden and the silence from other Michigan Democrats suggest that politicians in the Great Lakes State fear a negative down-ballot effect if Biden continues his campaign for re-election.
