Former President Donald Trump surprised many when he appeared on an episode of the “All In” podcast and complimented current President Joe Biden, who he once described as the “worst debater I have ever faced.” On the podcast, hosted by Silicon Valley entrepreneurs Chamath Palihapitiya, Jason Calacanis, David Sacks, and David Friedberg, Trump said that while he doesn’t want to underestimate Biden, he was impressed by the president’s debate performance against Paul Ryan.
However, in the past, Trump has been less flattering of Biden’s debating skills. In his TruthSocial account, Trump challenged the president to a debate on CNN and said, “Crooked corrupt Joe Biden is the WORST debater I have ever faced – He can’t put two sentences together.
Some believe that Trump’s change in tone may be because the bar has been lowered for President Biden, with many believing that simply not falling asleep during the debate would be considered a victory. CNN political commentator Van Jones warned that if the president makes a mistake at the debate, it could mean the end of his presidency.
Jones described debating against Trump as an incredibly tough task that most people would not be able to handle. He argued that if Biden can stand toe-to-toe with Trump for an hour and a half, then he is fit to be president.
The upcoming debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will have some new rules set by CNN, such as the possibility of a third-party candidate on stage and the absence of a studio audience. Both candidates have agreed to appear at a uniform podium, with their positions determined by a coin flip. Microphones will be muted throughout the debate except for the candidate whose turn it is to speak, and no props or pre-written notes will be allowed on stage.
