Trump’s ‘Good Idea’ for VP Picks Up Steam, as He Could Unveil at RNC Convention

Former President Donald Trump has revealed that he has “a pretty good idea” about who his vice presidential running mate will be, and may announce the pick during the summer’s Republican National Convention. In an interview with Fox News’ Aishah Hasnie, Trump stated he had not been asked to endorse former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, a Republican, for the U.S. Senate. While Hogan had endorsed Nikki Haley over Trump and did not endorse him during the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, Trump expressed support for Hogan’s potential victory.

In a separate Fox News segment on “Outnumbered,” contributor Kellyanne Conway predicted that Trump would make significant gains in support from Hispanic voters in November. She also urged him to choose a person of color as his running mate. The panel criticized President Joe Biden for his efforts to appeal to Latino voters, accusing him of pandering. According to a February poll by The New York Times and Siena College, Trump is leading Biden by six points among Latino voters.

Conway claimed that the influx of migrants entering the country from the south and the COVID-19 lockdowns would help swing more Hispanic voters to Trump in 2024. She also suggested that Donald Trump should pick a person of color as his VP, citing several reasons why Hispanics might be inclined to support him over the Democrats.

In a guest post for The New York Times, Conway stated that when determining what should be Trump’s “most important” question regarding a running mate for 2024, the question “Who?” is less significant than “Why?” She argued that the individual should complement Trump’s America First record and vision and recognize the difference between loyalty-as-tenacity (yes) and loyalty-as-obsequiousness (no.

This comes as a now-former Democratic donor and current big tech executive, Jacob Helberg, explained during an interview last week why he and dozens of others in the industry are now supporting Trump. Helberg was a prominent Democrat donor and gave to Biden in his last presidential campaign but switched his support to Trump due to the progressive policies implemented by the Democrats under President Joe Biden’s administration.

In recent weeks, numerous leading figures from Silicon Valley have expressed their support for former President Donald Trump, citing various reasons for their change of heart. The extremely liberal city of San Francisco has been a stronghold of Democratic politics for decades, but this newfound support for Trump among tech industry leaders could signal a shift in political allegiances within the region.
