A New Jersey high school graduate has left audiences divided after performing a saucy headstand and split combination on stage during her graduation ceremony at Newark’s Prudential Center. The unidentified student, from Paramus Catholic High School, showcased her amateur gymnastics skills in front of cheering crowds, stretching before flipping upside down and tossing her legs in the air with her limbs spread horizontally.
While some praised the graduate for celebrating her academic achievements by flexing her flexibility, others criticized the move as “trashy” and “ghetto.” Critics argued that performing such a stunt at a Catholic school was “diabolical,” while others suggested that those involved would look back on it with embarrassment.
This incident is not the first time unusual behavior has occurred during graduation ceremonies. In May, an Atlanta mother spewed curses and insults during her first-grader’s end-of-year awards ceremony after he was snubbed for recognition. Last month, a kindergarten graduation at Buckley Carpenter Elementary in Somerville, Tennessee saw a fight break out between at least ten adults and children.
In another incident, Wisconsin father Matthew Eddy was charged with disorderly conduct after storming the stage during his daughter’s high school graduation, shoving the institution’s superintendent, Rainey Briggs, and yelling “I don’t want her touching him.” The madcap dad claims to have had “past issues” with the school official.
Despite the more explosive graduation outbursts, some online onlookers actually applauded the New Jersey graduate for her unconventional celebration of her academic achievements, with one commenter noting that she was wearing appropriate clothing underneath during the stunt.
