Late Sunday night, the body of a stillborn infant was discovered on the campus of the University of Tampa, near McKay Hall, a dormitory used by first-year students. The scene was broadcasted by Fox Tampa Bay, showing forensic investigators from the Tampa Police Department examining the area. Students received a notification from school officials advising them to avoid the scene, as an investigation was underway.
No details have been released regarding the cause of the infant’s death. According to the police, “the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death are under investigation.” Officials also assured that there is no outstanding threat to public safety. The University of Tampa, a private institution with approximately 10,500 students and nearly 1,000 staff members, was wrapping up its spring semester on Monday. Classes officially ended on Friday, followed by the school’s graduation ceremony on Saturday.
