According to Fox Tampa Bay, the scene was examined by the Tampa Police Department’s forensic unit, and images broadcasted showed police activity in the area. Students received a notification from school officials advising them to avoid the scene while an investigation is ongoing.
Details about the baby’s cause of death have not been released, but authorities stated that the circumstances surrounding the child’s passing are under investigation. A brief statement from the police read: “The circumstances surrounding the baby’s death are under investigation.” Officials also assured the public that there is no outstanding threat to safety.
The University of Tampa, a private institution with around 10,500 students and nearly 1,000 staff members, was in the midst of wrapping up its spring semester. Classes were set to end on Monday, with the formal conclusion coming on Friday. The school’s graduation ceremony is scheduled for Saturday.
