Spears opens up on social media, revealing inner turmoil after abuse scandal

The Grammy Award-winning singer, 42, took to Instagram to express her frustration with her family following the recent settlement with her father Jamie Spears. In a post that included a book recommendation – Jennette McCurdy’s memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died” – Britney wrote, “Stay nice folks!!! Good book.” The book is about the author’s experience as a child star and her struggles with her late abusive mother.

Britney previously posted a mirror selfie on Sunday, captioning it, “I was actually right about nerve damage in my back!!! I have to get [acupuncture] every day of my life now!!! Words and thinking too hard make it worse!!!” She also shared her experience of having to crawl to her own door one time, stating that her family hurt her. Britney expressed her disappointment with the legal system, saying, “There has been no justice and probably never will be!!!” The people who did nothing to help her during a four-month period are “smooth sailing,” she added.

The post comes after Britney quietly settled her years-long legal battle with father Jamie last week. As part of the settlement, Britney is saddled with Jamie’s $2 million legal bill, in addition to the $4 million she reportedly spent on her own lawyer. This means that Britney is said to be in a bigger financial hole than before the trial.

In her post, Britney also wrote about how her upbringing taught her the importance of right and wrong, but the two people who were supposed to teach her those values ended up hurting her. She expressed gratitude for being alive and mentioned that she misses her home in Louisiana. However, she feels that visiting would not be safe due to her family’s actions.

According to TMZ, Britney is furious about the outcome of the settlement after her attorney Mathew Rosengart assured her it was a solid case. Jamie had accused Britney of using stall tactics to draw out the case. The settlement marks the end of a 13-year conservatorship that ended in 2021. During that time, Britney’s father served as her conservator and was paid $16,000 a month and received a percentage of her tour gross revenues.

The singer had previously testified about the “abusive” treatment she allegedly suffered during the conservatorship. With the settlement, Britney and her father have avoided going to trial over their dispute.
