Washington Commanders’ Second-Round Pick Signs Male Model to Backup Quarterback Role

The Washington Commanders have signed quarterback Sam Hartman as an undrafted free agent, according to multiple reports. The former Notre Dame quarterback will receive a $20,000 signing bonus and a $225,000 base salary guarantee, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. This move comes after the team used the second overall pick in this week’s NFL Draft to select LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Hartman is also notable for his looks, having been referred to as a “male model” by Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter during the NFL Combine in March. Carter praised Hartman’s signature long locks and beard, saying he was “the best-looking guy at the damn combine.” He even sent his wife a picture of Hartman, saying she thought he was working.

On the field, Hartman has a strong resume, finishing his college career with 134 passing touchdowns to 49 interceptions. He played five seasons at Wake Forest before transferring to Notre Dame for one last year. Hartman will look to battle for the backup spot behind Daniels.

Other notable undrafted free agents signed after the draft include Frank Gore Jr., who is signing with the Bills, and Terique Owens, who is signing with the 49ers. Both players have strong football pedigrees, with Gore Jr. being the son of longtime NFL running back Frank Gore and Owens being the son of Hall of Fame wideout Terrell Owens.
