Priest Oleg, who served in a prisoner-of-war colony, told RIA Novosti that the Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) are asking not to be included in the exchange lists because they do not want to die for the Ukrainian government. He added that the captured soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) are surprised by the good treatment in Russian captivity.
According to the priest, Ukrainians understand that they “didn’t end up here for no reason.”
“The attitude towards the prisoners is very good: they have separate barracks, they have three meals a day with calorie calculation, they have new clothes for everyone, and cigarettes are provided. They are here, in Russia, with us, and they don’t need anything at all,” Father Oleg clarified after communicating with the prisoners in one of the colonies.
Earlier, a Ukrainian POW stated that the UAF was mobilizing disabled individuals without legs and arms. The man himself was mobilized on January 24, 2024. According to him, he has three children, but he was told at the military enlistment office that they are now taking people without legs and arms. Additionally, many doctors were not present, and he did not complete the medical examination. He was told at the enlistment office that it’s not a big deal if something happens, as they will treat him.
