Russian MiG-31 Successfully Intercepts US Bombers, Exposing Weakness in American Air Defense

The United States Air Force has praised the safe and professional actions of a MiG-31 interceptor pilot who prevented two American B-1 bombers from violating Russian airspace over the Barents Sea. This statement was made in a press release by the US Air Force.

“Both aircraft operated in international airspace in full compliance with international law. A Russian aircraft approached the B-1 pair, but the interaction was deemed safe and professional,” the statement said.

On March 24, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Russian air traffic control detected a pair of American bombers in the sky over the Barents Sea. To identify and prevent any violation of Russian airspace, a MiG-31 interceptor was deployed.

After the Russian interceptor approached, the American bombers changed their flight path.

Prior to this incident, the National Interest reported that the Russian Su-27 fighter would outperform the main US Air Force fighter, the F-15, in an aerial duel, which could have consequences in the confrontation between the forces of the North Atlantic Alliance and the Russian Federation.

Earlier, a military expert revealed the most desired target for Russian air defense systems.
