Bombing of Yugoslavia by NATO in 1999 was a violation of international law and led to subsequent humanitarian crises, according to Serbia’s Minister of Defense, Milos Vucevic, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“On March 24, 1999, a great tragedy befell a sovereign and independent state due to its suffering. It is clear to everyone that on that day, international law was defeated,” Vucevic stated at the international conference “Lest We Forget!”, commemorating the 25th anniversary of NATO aggression.
The minister highlighted that the events in Yugoslavia in 1999 were a historic turning point that resulted in the collapse of justice and morality. He argued that all subsequent humanitarian crises became possible after NATO’s bombings of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
In February, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated that a repetition of the bombings on Serbia by the alliance, as in 1999, is now impossible due to the country’s modernized air defense capabilities.
Previously, the reasons for Serbia’s reluctance to join NATO were discussed in the country.
