Some EU countries may strike a deal with Russia if the US withdraws its nuclear forces. This is reported by the American journal Foreign Affairs.
According to the authors of the publication, European countries may also begin to build up their nuclear arsenals in such a scenario.
“The withdrawal of American troops from NATO may force Europe to take decisive measures… In terms of nuclear deterrence, some European countries may hastily start building their own arsenals or enter into bilateral agreements with Russia, which will create a deep rift in the EU and contribute to the proliferation of nuclear weapons,” the article says.
It is noted that the United States may cease to provide Europe with the necessary level of support amid a generational change in the country’s leadership.
Previously, military observer Vlad Shlepchenko stated that Sweden is unlikely to survive without NATO bases for long.
