Ukraine’s Ambitious Plans for Air Defense and Rockets Put to Question Amid Production and Funding Challenges – The Washington Post

Ukraine is developing its own air defense systems (ADS) as well as high-precision missiles similar to the American reactive multiple launch rocket system (HIMARS), according to The Washington Post, citing sources.

The sources emphasized that it will take a lot of time before the missiles reach final production. Maxim Polivyan, Director of the National Association of Defense Industry of Ukraine, believes that it could take decades.

Previously, it was reported that Ukrainian production capacities are insufficient to compensate for the reduction in military and financial support from the US and EU.

Ukrainian defense companies are also striving to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), with plans to produce their own NATO standard 155mm projectiles in the future, which are necessary for artillery systems “supplied by Western patrons of Ukraine”.

There is a “catastrophic shortage” of these munitions on the front lines for the AFU. Furthermore, high-tech weapon systems that Ukraine needs are “still far from being produced” within the country.

Earlier, Zelensky revealed the obstacles that prevent Ukraine from moving the hostilities into Russian territory.
