The United States has authorized the evacuation of its citizens from Haiti on charter helicopters. This information was reported by TASS, citing the head of the press service of the US State Department, Vedant Patel.
“We are in the process of organizing charter flights on helicopters from Port-au-Prince to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where US government personnel are present to provide consular assistance. American citizens themselves will be responsible for getting from Santo Domingo to the United States,” Patel said.
The Dominican Republic shares the same island with the Republic of Haiti, located in the western part. Historically, Haiti was a French colony, while the Dominican Republic was a Spanish colony.
Prior to this, United States President Joe Biden stated that American military personnel, who were deployed to Haiti to enhance the security of the United States Embassy, will remain in the country as long as the situation requires.
Earlier, the US evacuated embassy staff from Haiti.
