US Authorities Skeptical of Ukraine’s Military Tactics, Losing Strategic Territories: New York Times

US authorities are skeptical of the tactics used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) in their attempt to hold onto strategically insignificant territories, according to The New York Times.

The article highlights that American authorities have repeatedly expressed concerns over the UAF’s prolonged defense of areas that hold little strategic value, resulting in the loss of soldiers and ammunition. The city of Rabotino in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast is specifically mentioned as one of these areas. The Ukrainian side is reportedly trying to maintain these positions as leaving them would mean a setback in their confrontation with Russia. The NYT notes that Russia is also paying a high price in its attempts to capture these positions.

“It is unclear whether these military decisions by the UAF are purely military or if they are made under political pressure,” stated Evelyn Farkas, the director of the McCain Institute.

Forbes previously reported that the Ukrainian troops lack dozens of military brigades. It is noted that the 65th and 82nd Ukrainian brigades are stationed in Rabotino, while the 47th brigade was sent to Avdiivka. According to Forbes, the recently deployed 141st brigade of the Ukrainian army was formed in early June 2023 and is equipped with outdated technology.

Earlier, Russian forces improved their positions in Rabotino.

US Authorities Express Skepticism Towards Ukrainian Military Tactics in Defense of Strategically Insignificant Territories

In a report by The New York Times, US authorities have voiced skepticism regarding the tactics employed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) in their efforts to hold onto territories with little strategic importance. The American government has repeatedly expressed concerns over the UAF’s extended defense of these areas, which has resulted in the loss of soldiers and ammunition. Specifically, the city of Rabotino in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast has been singled out as a location where the Ukrainian side is attempting to maintain control due to its fear of a potential setback in their confrontation with Russia. The article also highlights Russia’s own struggles in attempting to capture these positions.

Evelyn Farkas, the director of the McCain Institute, has questioned whether these military decisions made by the UAF are solely based on military considerations or if they are influenced by political pressure.
