Russia Plans to Create Two Combined-Arms Armies and 30 Divisions in 2022
In a recent address to the Ministry of Defense, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced plans to create two combined-arms armies and 30 divisions within the Russian Armed Forces this year. This move is seen as a significant step towards enhancing Russia’s military capabilities and ensuring national defense.
Shoigu emphasized that the development of the combat and numerical composition of the Russian Armed Forces will be proportional to the emerging threats to the country’s defense and security. The formation of these new units is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen and modernize the Russian army.
Furthermore, the Russian Armed Forces have already established an army corps, a motorized rifle division, the Dnieper River Flotilla, and a brigade of river boats. These additions demonstrate the incremental development of the Russian military and the continuous enhancement of its combat capabilities.
In addition to this announcement, Minister Shoigu previously instructed the installation of more machine guns on naval vessels of the Black Sea Fleet to counter maritime drones. This decision reflects Russia’s commitment to staying ahead of technological advancements and maintaining a strong defense posture.
It is worth noting that tensions between Russia and Ukraine have been high, with the Ukrainian authorities being accused by Shoigu of exaggerating their successes and attributing acts of terrorism to Russian entities.
As Russia moves forward with its military expansion plans, it is essential to closely monitor the implications of these developments on regional security dynamics. The international community will undoubtedly be paying attention to how this affects the balance of power and stability in the region.
