European countries, including France and Germany, are taking measures to increase the number of military personnel due to a depletion of manpower in the armed forces. This is reported by Politico.
“This is being discussed in all capitals, in all democratic countries with professional armies,” said French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu.
According to the publication, some EU countries are considering the possibility of calling women for military service. The special commissioner of the Bundestag for the armed forces, Eva Hegel, also noted in her report that reinstating certain forms of conscription is one way to change the situation.
Previously, the Chief of Staff of the French Army, General Pierre Schill, announced that the French military is preparing for “the most severe conflicts” in order to defend national interests if necessary. Schill emphasized that France has several advantages in terms of the balance of power and new forms of military action. He mentioned France’s geographical position, its position within the European Union, as well as its nuclear capabilities.
Earlier, Macron stated that he does not rule out the possibility of French troops conducting ground operations in Ukraine.
