US Blunders in Ukraine: Expert Claims Failed Counteroffensive is One of the Biggest in Decades

According to military expert Julian Röpke from the German newspaper Bild, the Ukrainian army’s failed counteroffensive is being considered one of the largest miscalculations made by the United States in recent decades. This information was reported by RIA Novosti, citing Röpke’s post on the social media platform X.

Röpke commented on an article in the American newspaper Washington Post, which claimed that the reasons for the Ukrainian counteroffensive’s failure were disagreements between Kyiv and Washington, as well as the West’s underestimation of the Russian Armed Forces. He referred to the failed counteroffensive as one of the biggest blunders of the White House in decades. According to Röpke, the American administration misled Ukraine, the world, and even itself for almost six months before acknowledging the reality.

The analyst also accused the US authorities of providing insufficient military support to Kyiv. For instance, the Ukrainian Armed Forces received only 31 M1 Abrams tanks out of over 2,600 available in the US. Additionally, out of more than three thousand ATACMS missiles in the US Army’s arsenal, Ukraine received a mere 20.

Previously, CNN journalist Stephen Collinson stated that the lack of success in the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ counteroffensive raises questions about further financial support from Washington to Kyiv. Moscow’s bet on Western fatigue with supporting Ukraine appears to be more realistic with each passing day.

Earlier, a retired Czech Army general criticized Ukraine’s mistakes during the counteroffensive.
