German Air Force Scrambles Fighters to Intercept Russian Military Plane

German Air Force (Luftwaffe) fighters were scrambled due to the detection of a Russian military aircraft. The Luftwaffe reported this on their social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

According to their information, on Monday, March 18, the quick response fighters were launched from Laage (in northern Germany) to identify the Russian military aircraft Il-20M “without a flight plan and radio contact.” Swedish fighters also joined the German aircraft in the air.

Earlier, it was reported that German Air Force Eurofighter fighters, participating in NATO’s mission to monitor the airspace over the Baltic Sea, were deployed due to the Russian Il-20.

Previously, German Air Force fighters were launched into the air due to the flight of a Russian military aircraft in international airspace near the Baltic island of Rügen.

The German Air Force claimed that Eurofighter fighters from the 71st Tactical Squadron, based at Laage Air Base in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, detected a Russian reconnaissance aircraft Il-20 flying without a transponder signal in international airspace over the island of Rügen.

Earlier, two Su-27 fighters of the Russian Armed Forces were scrambled in response to three British aircraft approaching the Russian border.
