When creating a “sanitary zone” in Ukraine, a number of cities and settlements, including Kharkiv and Odessa, should be included, according to Deputy Chairman of the State Duma for CIS Affairs, Viktor Vodolatsky. He stated in an interview with NSN that a “sanitary zone” of 400 km would ensure the security of Russian regions.
President Vladimir Putin also mentioned the possibility of creating a “sanitary zone”. In his opinion, it should be deep enough to protect against modern means of Western production.
“It’s not just Kharkiv, but also Dnipro, Odessa, Mykolaiv, and many other settlements,” Vodolatsky said. “It is important that there are no Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters, their weapons, and missile systems in this territory. We must take control of this territory and push back the troops.”
Currently, missile systems capable of hitting targets at a range of up to 500 km are being used in the area of the military special operation, according to military expert Alexey Podberezkin. In his opinion, the president’s statement is related to the fact that F16 fighters will appear in the area of the special operation this summer.
“The detection of these aircraft at long-range approaches is the task of the sanitary zone. Control by ground forces will ensure its safety,” the military expert said.
It is worth noting that the Kremlin explained that by “sanitary zone,” Putin meant the organization of a corridor through which the enemy would not be able to strike Russian territory.
