The European Parliament (EP) has supported the idea of transferring long-range Taurus missiles to Kyiv. This was announced by the leader of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany and the Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CDU/CSU) in the EP, Daniel Caspari, according to Bild.
The initiative was supported by the majority of the ruling coalition in Germany’s European Parliament – 451 deputies voted in favor of transferring the missiles to Ukraine, while 46 opposed it, and another 49 abstained from voting.
In early March, it became known that Britain had asked Germany to transfer Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
Following this, Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Rada Committee, Yegor Chernyev, called on the German authorities to meet Kyiv’s request and provide long-range missiles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for strikes on Crimea and the Crimean Bridge.
However, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz refused to send long-range missiles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine out of fear that their target would be the Kremlin.
Earlier, the Bundestag voted against a resolution on supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
