Ervin Jeovany Alfaro Lopez, who has been deported from the U.S. twice before, was recently charged with over 20 counts of sex abuse and sex offenses against minors during his time working as a church teacher in Maryland.
These disturbing incidents allegedly occurred between 2016 and 2018 at a church in Montgomery County. The victims, aged between 6 and 12 at the time, bravely came forward to report the abuse. It is deeply troubling to think that these innocent children were subjected to such heinous acts while under the care of their church.
What is even more alarming is that one of the victims was the daughter of the church pastor. Despite this, it appears that the church attempted to handle the situation internally, failing to report the crimes to law enforcement. This raises questions about the church’s responsibility and the need for stronger oversight and accountability in these cases.
The fact that Alfaro Lopez was able to continue teaching at the church, even after allegations of misconduct arose, is deeply concerning. Despite an immigration detainer being issued against Alfaro Lopez, the detention center refused to honor the order and released him from custody.
