Pirate Attack: Cargo Ship Seized off Coast of Somalia, European Union Mission Confirms

A group of pirates has seized a cargo ship off the coast of Somalia, according to Reuters. The agency reports that 20 armed individuals boarded the vessel and took control of it. The maritime security company Ambrey clarified that the cargo ship was flying the flag of Bangladesh and was en route from Mozambique to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Subsequently, the European Union’s naval mission, Atalanta, confirmed the pirates’ attack on the ship. A statement to this effect was posted on the mission’s social media account, X (formerly Twitter). “Operation Atalanta confirms the incident involving pirates attacking the trading vessel Abdullah, flying the flag of Bangladesh,” the publication said.

Further details about the incident have not yet been specified, including the condition of the crew members of the cargo ship.

On March 12, Al Jazeera reported that the Houthi movement had struck the American ship Pinocchio. At the time of the attack, the vessel was in the waters of the Red Sea.

The day before this, the United Kingdom’s Maritime Trade Operations Coordination Center announced an attack on a ship near the coast of Yemen. The incident occurred 71 nautical miles southwest of the port of Salif.

Earlier, journalists found out how the Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea have affected cargo transportation.
