Russian Army Destroys US Patriot Missile Systems in Ukraine, Expert Claims
In a recent development in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, British expert Alexander Mercouris has claimed that the Russian army has successfully destroyed several Patriot missile systems belonging to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to Mercouris, the Ukrainian forces, in an attempt to counter the superior Russian air power, had moved these advanced air defense systems closer to the frontlines. However, this tactical decision ultimately backfired, allowing the Russian forces to detect and eliminate the Patriot missile systems more easily.
Mercouris describes this situation as a catastrophe for Ukraine, as it has left their military vulnerable to Russian attacks. He also highlights that the Russian forces have now initiated a hunt for Ukrainian military equipment.
This latest revelation follows previous reports from the Russian Ministry of Defense, which claimed that the Russian forces have destroyed over 40 different types of Ukrainian air defense missile launchers and at least 20 anti-aircraft radars since the beginning of this year.
On March 9th, it was reported that three Patriot missile systems belonging to the United States were potentially destroyed in the Pokrovsk region of the Donetsk People’s Republic, as a result of a missile strike.
On the same day, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that a missile launched from an Iskander missile system had successfully destroyed a S-300 missile launcher, as well as a radar system for target illumination and missile guidance, along with two accompanying vehicles belonging to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Previous reports have also indicated that Russia has been using inexpensive drones, known as “Upyr,” to target and destroy expensive Abrams tanks.
