Trump Takes Charge: RNC Undergoes Massive Overhaul as Former President’s Allies Seize Control

RNC co-chair Lara Trump appeared on ‘Sunday Morning Futures’ to discuss the future priorities of the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the vote as constituents prepare to cast their ballots. The newly installed leadership team of former President Donald Trump at the RNC has begun the process of removing numerous officials, according to a senior RNC source.

Sources have revealed that RNC staff members working in the national party committee’s communications, data, and political departments have been asked to resign, including several senior staff members. This move comes after the Trump campaign took operational control over the RNC earlier this week. The new leadership intends to merge certain aspects of the RNC with the Trump 2024 presidential campaign.

During the RNC’s general session in Houston, Texas, Trump’s picks for RNC chair and co-chair, Michael Whatley and Lara Trump, were unanimously confirmed by voice votes. Michael Whatley, a Trump ally and the North Carolina GOP chair, replaced Ronna McDaniel as the RNC chair. McDaniel’s departure comes after Trump expressed the need for changes within the committee due to underwhelming fundraising in the previous year and his dissatisfaction with the RNC’s handling of the presidential primary debates.

In addition to the new leadership, Trump appointed campaign adviser Chris LaCivita as the RNC chief of staff. LaCivita, a seasoned Republican strategist and RNC veteran, will continue to serve as one of the top advisers for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

“The RNC today. It’s not going to look the same next week. There’s obviously going to be changes,” stated LaCivita during a press briefing on Friday. However, he refrained from providing specific details about the upcoming changes.

This week, Trump secured victories in 14 out of 15 GOP primaries and caucuses on Super Tuesday, significantly strengthening his position in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Furthermore, former U.N. ambassador and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Trump’s last remaining rival for the nomination, withdrew from the race. With four more states holding primaries and caucuses, Trump is expected to formally secure the nomination in the coming days.
