NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has declined to comment on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s position on the supply of Taurus missiles to Ukraine. The Secretary General’s statement was broadcast on the organization’s website ahead of the raising of the Swedish flag at NATO headquarters to mark the country’s membership in the alliance.
“I also welcome that some allies are providing long-range systems. But I will not comment on specific systems and specific allies,” Stoltenberg said.
Last week, UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron stated that London is ready to assist Germany in resolving issues related to the supply of German Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock supported her colleague’s proposal and noted that Berlin is ready to consider it.
Specifically, Germany may supply Taurus missiles to the United Kingdom, and in return, the British side will transfer Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine. This way, Germany will formally relieve itself of the responsibility for providing the Ukrainian forces with cruise missiles, according to Der Spiegel.
