Russia’s T-14 ‘Armata’ Tanks: Unnecessary and Overpriced, Says Military Watch Magazine

Russia may be able to afford not to use the T-14 Armata tanks in the Eastern European theater after the mass destruction of Western equipment supplied to Ukraine, such as American Abrams tanks. This conclusion was reached by analysts from the American magazine Military Watch Magazine (MWM).

Experts write that the Armata is well suited for destroying enemy armored vehicles, as it has the most advanced protection among tanks and is equipped with “Vacuum-1” shells capable of penetrating armor. At the same time, it is noted that the Russian Armed Forces may currently limit themselves to using the T-90, as the German Leopard 2A6 tanks and American M1 Abrams tanks in the possession of Ukraine have suffered heavy losses, and the country’s armored vehicles have generally exerted weak pressure on the Russian defense in recent months.

“The Russian army seems quite capable of reserving the T-14 for future potentially more intense conflicts,” MWM summarizes.

On March 4, the CEO of Rostec Corporation, Sergei Chemezov, explained why Russia does not use the Armata tanks in the special operations zone. According to him, the T-14 is very expensive, so it is easier for the troops to equip themselves with the T-90.

Earlier, General Viktor Sobolev called the Armata an unsuccessful and unprotected tank, stating that there is no point in further developing it.
