Valery Zaluzhny, after his dismissal from the position of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, underwent a medical examination and was deemed unfit for military service. This was reported by the Ukrainian publication “Mirror of the Week” citing sources.
It is noted that Zaluzhny wrote a report on his dismissal from the army back in February of this year, which lay on the table of the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Rustam Umorov, for several weeks. Presumably, the former commander wrote the report because he understood that he would not be given any further command.
“Zaluzhny would receive 1,762 hryvnias (slightly over 4,000 rubles) for his rank, without being able to engage in any activities. In order to retire and do something else, he needed to leave the service,” writes the “Mirror of the Week.”
In early February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Valery Zaluzhny from the position of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and appointed Lieutenant General Alexander Syrsky in his place.
On March 7, Zelensky approved Valery Zaluzhny’s candidacy for the position of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. A request for agrément – the consent of the state to accept a person as the head of a diplomatic mission – was sent to the British side.
Earlier polls showed that Zaluzhny would have won the presidential elections in Ukraine in 2024.
