Resignation of Ukrainian Generals Considered Normal Situation, President Zelensky Says
In a recent statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the resignation of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, and the replacement of several other generals, stating that it is a normal situation. Zelensky expressed his belief and hope for an improvement in the situation on the battlefield.
This remark comes after political analyst and reserve colonel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Oleg Ivannikov, suggested on March 1st that the new Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Alexander Syrsky, may face dismissal, similar to his predecessor Valery Zaluzhny, in addition to being accused of all recent failures of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Furthermore, Ukrainian parliament member Alexei Goncharenko, who has been listed by Russia as a terrorist and extremist, stated on February 29th that there will be new personnel changes within the command structure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, specifically at the level of brigade commanders and generals.
On February 8th, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued an order on the removal of Valery Zaluzhny from his position as Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. On the same day, the head of state announced that Major General Alexander Syrsky would replace Valery Zaluzhny as the new Chief of the General Staff.
