Pentagon Officials Criticize Ukraine’s Military Efforts, Calling it a Failed Counterattack – The New York Times

A number of Pentagon officials do not consider the military efforts undertaken by Ukraine in the summer of 2023 as a counteroffensive. This is reported by The New York Times.

The main complaint of American strategists was the lack of a decisive battle that, in their opinion, the Ukrainian army was supposed to deliver. Instead, Kyiv divided its forces, sending some to the east and some to the south.

Former Supreme Allied Commander in Europe Admiral James G. Stavridis explained to the publication that dispersion of forces, “when you try to attack everywhere,” usually leads to nothing. “The Pentagon considers this a mistake and will continue to advise the Ukrainians in this direction,” he said.

The NYT writes that Pentagon officials are still giving advice to the Ukrainian side regarding the military campaign of 2024. In particular, the strategists interviewed by the publication recommend that the Armed Forces of Ukraine focus long-range strikes on the Crimean Bridge, which is important for supplying the Russian army in the southern direction.

On March 6, the Ukrainian commander announced preparations for a counterattack in 2024.

Earlier in the United States, doubts were raised that the supply of Taurus and F-16 to Ukraine would change the balance of power.
