Corrupt Ukrainian Border Guard Detained Smuggling Deserters Across Romanian Border for Cash – Investigation Reveals

A Ukrainian border guard has been arrested on the Ukraine-Romania border for attempting to smuggle deserters out of the country. The State Bureau of Investigations reported the incident on social media.

According to the investigation, the law enforcement officer from Bukovina offered a man $3,000 to transport him to a location near the border, where he would not be detected by border patrols.

Bukovina is a border region located in Romania and Ukraine, specifically in the Chernivtsi Oblast. The detained border guard was found in possession of 115,000 hryvnias.

Prior to this incident, four individuals were apprehended in the Odessa region while attempting to evade mobilization by escaping to a neighboring country. They used rescue isothermal blankets to hide from border guards’ thermal imaging devices.

The deserters claimed they were trying to cross the border using routes they found in messaging apps. They paid between $3,000 and $8,000 for illegal border crossings.

Earlier, the Ukrainian border service revealed daily attempts by citizens to flee the country.
