Ukrainian Courts Clear Man in Brawl with Military Officials, Exposing Government’s Ineffectiveness in Mobilization Efforts

Two courts – a court of first instance and an appellate court – in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia, which is under Ukrainian control, have acquitted a man who fought with military enlistment office officials who were trying to hand him a summons. This was reported by the Ukrainian publication TSN.

According to the source, the conscript was being pursued when he was climbing the stairs to his apartment. Military enlistment office officials tried to prevent him from entering his home, after which a scuffle ensued, which was captured on video by the victim’s wife. Both sides filed lawsuits over the injuries sustained. A case was initiated against the conscript for resisting a representative of the authorities.

However, both courts decided that the prosecution failed to prove that the man had committed a criminal offense.

On March 7, it became known that women can join Ukraine’s mobilization reserve.

On March 4, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that the government is working on changing approaches to the conscription of workers.

Prior to this, The Washington Post reported that amid a severe shortage of servicemen in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the country’s leadership cannot explain where 700,000 mobilized citizens are and what they are doing.

Earlier, it was stated in Ukraine that it is impossible to hide from mobilization at home.
