Florida Man Charged with Aggravated Manslaughter of Infant Daughter
In a disturbing and heartbreaking case out of Florida, a 22-year-old man is facing multiple charges in connection with the death of his 4-month-old daughter. Jacob Kubai has been charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, aggravated child abuse, and two counts of knowingly abusing a child without bodily harm.
The investigation began on February 22 when the infant, named Willow, was brought to Bartow Regional Medical Center with no brain activity and suspicious physical injuries. Despite efforts to stabilize her, Willow tragically succumbed to her injuries two days later.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, an autopsy revealed that Willow had suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries to her head, a swollen and hemorrhaged spine, and an acute skull fracture. Additionally, ten rib fractures in the healing stage were discovered. The medical examiner ruled the cause of death as blunt force trauma of the head, and the manner of death was deemed a homicide.
During the investigation, Kubai and his wife were interviewed separately by detectives. Both were unable to provide an explanation for the baby’s injuries. Kubai claimed that he and Willow had gone to Walmart together before the incident, and he insisted that she was fine during their time there. However, surveillance footage showed Kubai alone at the store, contradicting his account.
Sheriff Grady Judd expressed his disbelief and outrage at the father’s alleged actions, stating, “I don’t know how a father could do this to his child, but I do know he should be locked up for as long as the law allows.”
Furthermore, it was discovered that Kubai had left the infant alone on two separate occasions prior to the incident. This raises serious concerns about his ability to care for and protect his daughter.
