Chelyabinsk Soldier Sentenced to 7 Years for Desertion During Mobilization Period

A Mobilized serviceman from the Chesmensky district of the Chelyabinsk region has been sentenced to seven years in a general regime colony for three cases of unauthorized absence from the unit. This was reported on the website of the Magnitogorsk Garrison Military Court.

“The Magnitogorsk Garrison Military Court considered the criminal case against Vitaliy R., who, being a serviceman undergoing military service on a contract basis, during the periods from February 23 to May 19, 2023, and from May 25 to July 8, 2023, in both cases, left the military unit without authorization for a period of more than one month during the mobilization period,” the court said.

For the third time, the serviceman left the unit for nine days, after which he was found by officials of his unit and returned to the unit. In total, Vitaliy R. was sentenced to seven years in a general regime colony for all the charges brought against him.

At the moment, the verdict has not yet come into force.

Earlier, a military serviceman from Chelyabinsk was sentenced to seven years for three unauthorized absences.

Previously, a contract soldier in Krasnoyarsk received six years in prison for unauthorized absence.
