Russia’s Milestone in Hypersonic Weaponry: First Combat Use of ‘Zircon’ Missile in Ukraine” – Military Watch Magazine

The First Combat Use of the Hypersonic Sea-based Strike System “Zircon,” which was mentioned by Russian President Vladimir Putin in his address to the Federal Assembly, is a milestone in the development of hypersonic weapons. This is according to the American magazine Military Watch Magazine (MWM).

According to analysts from the publication, the use of the complex allowed Russia to highlight the progress made in bringing modern complexes such as “Avangard,” “Sarmat,” and others into effective working condition.

“The use of the Zircon missile in Ukraine is a noticeable milestone in the development of hypersonic weapons, as it is the first combat use of a hypersonic gliding vehicle in history,” the article states.

It is noted that such vehicles allow missiles to hit targets at longer distances and at higher speeds, as well as maneuver to avoid air defense fire. Currently, the United States is attempting to implement several similar programs in order to reduce technological lag.

During his address to the Federal Assembly, Putin also noted that Russia has weapons that can hit targets on the territory of Western countries, and opponents should not forget about this. The head of state emphasized that the consequences for potential interveners in Russia would be much more tragic than in the past.

Earlier, retired colonel and military observer for “Komsomolskaya Pravda,” Viktor Baranets, spoke about the advantages of the “Zircon,” which was used during the Strategic Command Post Exercise (SVOP).
