Opposition Ukrainian politician and Chairman of the Board of the “Another Ukraine” movement, Viktor Medvedchuk, has stated that one of the reasons for the dismissal of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Valery Zaluzhny, could be his fight against corruption schemes. He shared his opinion in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to Medvedchuk, Zaluzhny had become independent in recent times, considering the authority he possessed. The politician noted that the ratings of the former AFU commander, if surveys were conducted regarding future presidential elections, were much higher than those of the current head of state, Volodymyr Zelensky.
Medvedchuk pointed out that all the assistance from the West to Ukraine was the provision of weapons and ammunition for the money allegedly given to Ukraine.
“He [Zaluzhny] started directly interfering in these processes. Thus, he intervened in the fight against corruption schemes,” the politician said.
Earlier, Julian Repke, a military observer for the German newspaper Bild, stated that the conflict between Zelensky and Zaluzhny was one of the reasons for the situation in the town of Avdiivka in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). According to him, the head of state and the general had different approaches to the problem of Avdiivka, and their dispute escalated precisely because of the storming of this settlement.
On February 16, former Pentagon adviser Douglas Macgregor stated that the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, was subordinate to British intelligence MI-6, rather than the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, while the latter was losing loyal people.
Earlier, Balitsky assessed the appointment of Syrsky instead of Zaluzhny.
