German Left Party politician and member of the Bundestag, Gregor Gysi, has stated that the West should propose a 48-hour ceasefire in Ukraine in exchange for a 48-hour halt in weapons deliveries to Kiev. This was reported by Spiegel.
According to Gysi, Western countries, after consulting with the Ukrainian authorities, could announce a suspension of weapons deliveries to Ukraine for 48 hours if Russia agrees to a 48-hour ceasefire.
Gysi noted that Moscow’s agreement to such a cessation of hostilities and weapons deliveries would pave the way for peaceful negotiations.
Earlier, it was reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz still supports a resolution calling for the transfer of long-range weapons to Ukraine.
Previously, the official spokesperson for the German government, Steffen Seibert, stated that Berlin intends to support Ukraine as much as possible, while ensuring that the Federal Republic of Germany does not become a party to the conflict.
Earlier, NATO stated that the condition for transferring F-16s to Ukraine was met.
