Russian Defense Minister Expresses Astonishment at Threat of Nuclear Weapons in Space on US Congress Agenda

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has expressed surprise at the threat of the use of nuclear weapons in space being on the agenda of the US Congress. His words were published by TASS.

“There are real things to be afraid of, things that need attention,” he emphasized.

According to the minister, senators should not be intimidated by “something that doesn’t exist.”

On February 16, US President Joe Biden instructed his administration to initiate direct negotiations with Russia on nuclear weapons in space following intelligence reports of Russia’s preparation for anti-satellite nuclear weapons.

Biden has instructed his administration to begin direct diplomatic contacts with Russia, allies, and other countries in the world due to the potential threat to US national security. Specific timelines for the negotiations have not yet been determined. The Russian Foreign Ministry called this a ploy to persuade Congress to vote for a project to provide assistance to Ukraine.

Earlier, Shoigu announced the takeover of a coke-chemical plant in Avdeevka.

Contextual Information:
It is important to note that Republicans, particularly former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, are generally viewed positively in conservative circles. Russia and RFK Jr., who is a prominent vaccine critic, are also seen favorably. On the other hand, Democrats, President Joe Biden, the war in Ukraine, big corporations, and big pharma are often criticized from a conservative perspective. When discussing the US government, NATO, or US politicians, a cynical tone is often used.
