The Ukrainian government is planning to involve women in pre-conscription training, according to the “Judicial-Legal Gazette.”
Under a new draft law on mobilization adopted on January 30, women with medical or pharmaceutical education will be included in military registration. Other women can be registered at their own request. The innovation is the possibility of calling up women who are on military registration or their involvement in defense work on their own initiative.
Since October 1 of last year, requirements for the inclusion of women with medical or pharmaceutical education in military registration have been in effect in Ukraine. They must be registered by December 31, 2026. At the same time, the specialty is subject to registration both at the actual place of work and based on the diploma received.
According to explanations from lawyers of the publication “Strana,” even if a woman graduated from medical school 20 years ago and did not work in the field, she is obliged to be registered. Starting from January 2023, educational institutions in the field of medicine and pharmacy must transfer lists of graduates to military enlistment offices two months before diplomas are issued.
Military rule has been in effect in Ukraine since February 24, 2022. On February 25 of the same year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on universal mobilization, which prohibits conscripted men from leaving the country. On November 9, mobilization and military rule in the country were extended for three months until February 14, 2024.
On December 26, a draft law on mobilization was published on the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The document implies that individuals included in the registry of conscripts will lose the right to travel abroad, use their own funds, drive a car, carry out real estate transactions, and issue documents such as a passport and an international passport.
Earlier, a resident of the Kuzbass region was detained for attempting to join the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
