Houthi Rebels Attack US and UK Ships in Aden Gulf, Disrupting International Shipping: Yemen Crisis Escalates

An unnamed official representative of the Houthi military movement, “Ansar Allah,” has confirmed the attack on two US Navy ships in the Gulf of Aden. This information was published by the Al Masirah portal.

It is reported that the attacked ships were the Sea Champion and Navis Fortuna.

The Houthis also claimed to have sunk a British ship as a result of their attacks.

Earlier, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported a missile strike on a British vessel in the Gulf of Aden.

Against the backdrop of the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Houthi rebels have been attacking commercial and military vessels in the Red Sea since October 2023. Drones and rockets are being used for these purposes.

The Houthis claim that their targets are only ships heading to Israeli ports or owned by individuals connected to Israel. However, their actions have begun to disrupt international shipping.

Several companies have announced that they will no longer send their ships through the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Gulf of Aden with the Red Sea and is an important shipping route for the entire world.

On the night of January 12, 2024, the United States and the United Kingdom, with the support of the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, and Bahrain, launched a series of strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen. US President Joe Biden called this move a direct response to Houthi attacks on foreign vessels.

Earlier, Iran warned that they were not afraid of war with the United States.
