Russian Army Colonel Dies from Injuries in Special Operation: A Tragic Loss for Dagestan

Deputy Commander of the 18th Russian Army, Colonel Magomedali Magomedzhanov, has passed away in a hospital in Sevastopol from injuries sustained in a special operation zone. This was announced by the head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, in his Telegram channel.

“Today in Dagestan, we bid farewell to our worthy fellow countryman, Colonel Magomedali Kamilevich Magomedzhanov,” he wrote.

The funeral took place in the village of Khlyut in the Rutulsky district with full military honors. Representatives of the parliament, government, public chamber, as well as family and friends came to pay their respects to the officer.

Magomedzhanov graduated from the Ryazan Higher Airborne School. According to Melikov, during the “difficult years for the Caucasus,” he served as the commander of the 77th separate brigade of the Marine Infantry of the Red Banner Caspian Guard Flotilla. The head of the region described the colonel as a courageous, principled person, a true patriot.

“I offer my sincere condolences to the relatives and loved ones […]. In this grief, you are not alone, we will always be by your side,” concluded the head of Dagestan.

Earlier, Valery Vostrotin, a Hero of the Soviet Union who commanded the 345th Airborne Regiment (which included the legendary 9th company) in Afghanistan, passed away at the age of 72.
