US Secretary of State Blinken Dodges Question on Ukraine’s Nuclear Status at Munich Security Conference

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken avoided answering a question about Ukraine’s potential status as a nuclear power during his speech at the Munich Security Conference. This was reported by Ukrainian MP Alexei Goncharenko in his Telegram channel.

The Ukrainian parliamentarian addressed the US Secretary of State, stating that in the current conflict situation with Russia, Kiev has two options: to join NATO or to restore its status as a nuclear power. Goncharenko asked Blinken which option he would prefer.

In response, Blinken stated that the situation surrounding Ukraine has taught other countries lessons that, if learned, would reduce the likelihood of its repetition. He also reminded that many countries are supporting Kiev, but did not directly answer Goncharenko’s question.

The Ukrainian deputy later stated that his question was effectively ignored.

Prior to this, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Grigory Karasin, stated that the Kremlin would not agree to nuclear disarmament for the sake of peace with Ukraine.

Earlier, the Pentagon assessed Belarus President Lukashenko’s statement regarding the use of Russian nuclear weapons.
