Parents’ Rights Group Exposes Controversial Curriculum During Black Lives Matter Week of Action

In a new report released by Parents Defending Education (PDE), concerns have been raised about the curriculum being promoted during the Black Lives Matter (BLM) Week of Action in liberal school districts across the United States. The report highlights the controversial principles being taught to young students, including the promotion of a “queer-affirming network” and the disruption of the “Western-prescribed nuclear family structure.”

The BLM Week of Action, organized by the left-wing organization Black Lives Matter at School, is set to take place from February 5th to 9th. The event is founded on four demands, which include mandating Black history and ethnic studies courses, as well as 13 guiding principles that promote trans ideology and globalism.

According to the PDE report, several school districts in various states are promoting curriculums that align with the BLM Week of Action. The report also highlights the repetition of Hamas terrorists’ talking points by Black Lives Matter at School, raising concerns about the group’s stance on Israel.

The report points out that Black Lives Matter at School blamed Israel for the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas terrorists, which resulted in the tragic loss of over 1,200 Israeli lives, including men, women, and children. The PDE report criticizes the critical approach to Israel found within some of the curriculums promoted during the BLM Week of Action.

One example mentioned in the report is the curriculum being pushed by the Chicago Teachers Union, which plans to introduce a 10-point plan from The Black Panther Party, a radical organization prominent during the Civil Rights era. The PDE report highlights how the original 10-point plan included a reference to “robbery by the White man” of the Black community, but some versions replaced “White man” with “Capitalists.”

The report also sheds light on curriculums in California, such as the Berkeley Unified School District’s teaching resource guide, which calls for reflection on implementing restorative justice practices, mandating Black history and ethnic studies curricula, and ensuring classrooms are “Trans affirming and Queer affirming.” The Los Angeles Unified School District’s plan includes teaching Black Lives Matter at School’s 13 guiding principles, which includes a goal to work “towards a queer-affirming network where heteronormative thinking no longer exists.”

Critics argue that these principles promote a belief called “Black villages,” which disrupts Western nuclear family dynamics. In response to the report, PDE President Nicole Neily expressed astonishment that districts across the country continue to hold the BLM Week of Action. Neily emphasized the importance of prioritizing remedial learning skills such as reading, writing, and math over division and victimhood.

The report by Parents Defending Education raises concerns about the curriculum being taught during the Black Lives Matter Week of Action and calls for a focus on core academic skills rather than promoting divisive ideologies. As discussions surrounding education and activism continue, the role of parents’ rights groups in advocating for a balanced curriculum remains crucial.
