Military Serviceman Sentenced to Prison for Desertion in Russia

The Borzinsky Garrison Military Court in the Zabaykalsky Krai region has sentenced a military serviceman to 5.5 years of imprisonment for desertion. This information was reported in the Telegram channel of the 2nd Eastern District Military Court.

According to the investigation, on December 24, 2022, the man did not return to his unit after being discharged from the hospital without a valid reason. It turned out that he wanted to take a break. On June 20, 2023, he was apprehended by military commandant officers.

As a result, the court imposed a punishment of imprisonment in a general regime colony for a period of 5 years and 6 months on Zolotarev. The sentence has not yet entered into legal force, as stated by the press service.

Prior to this, the conscripted serviceman was sentenced to imprisonment for failing to report for duty in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Russia. During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the defendant, with the last name Troitsky, did not show up at his unit without a valid reason in December 2022 and was absent until March 2023.

Earlier, a court in Crimea found a local resident guilty of attempted treason.
