NYPD Raids Brothel in Queens, Cracking Down on Prostitution and Sex Trafficking

The NYPD conducted a raid on a brothel in Queens on January 25, 2024, following the urging of NYC councilman Francisco Moya to take action against the illegal activity. The police targeted six establishments allegedly involved in prostitution, which is against the law in New York. Video footage shows NYPD officers cracking down on one establishment located at 95th Street and Roosevelt Avenue in Queens, with NYC Mayor Eric Adams leading the operation. Adams expressed his pride in joining the NYPD in enforcing quality of life regulations and shutting down these illegal establishments that perpetuated prostitution.

After the raid, Mayor Adams spoke to reporters and described the conditions inside the brothel as “inhumane.” He noted the presence of numerous single beds, indicating that sex trafficking was taking place. Adams emphasized the importance of acknowledging the reality of sex trafficking and stated that the NYPD would not turn a blind eye to this issue, as it greatly impacts the quality of life in the community. He made it clear that such establishments should not be treated lightly, comparing them to fast-food restaurants.

Mayor Adams credited Councilman Francisco Moya, who represents the community on the City Council, for his role in addressing this ongoing issue of sex trafficking. NYPD Chief John Chell also commended Moya for his efforts and acknowledged that sex trafficking has been a problem in the community for years. Chell emphasized that the city will not tolerate sex trafficking and expressed the department’s commitment to combating it.

Chief Chell revealed that the NYPD has plans to target several more locations involved in sex trafficking. Assistant Commissioner Kaz Daughtry stated that the Police Department intended to raid six or seven additional locations on the same day. Daughtry issued a warning to those operating illegal brothels or sex shops, stating that the NYPD would take all necessary legal actions to shut them down. He further warned that if such establishments reemerge under different names, the police would repeat the process and shut them down once again.

During the operation, Daughtry observed families walking around with their children in the community. He pointed out the presence of scantily dressed women and questioned whether it was acceptable for children to witness such scenes. Daughtry emphasized that the actions taken by the NYPD were a response to the concerns raised by the residents of Corona and East Elmhurst, and that this was just the beginning of their efforts.

In conclusion, the NYPD’s raid on a brothel in Queens signifies the city’s determination to combat prostitution and sex trafficking. Mayor Adams and Councilman Moya have been instrumental in addressing this issue, with the NYPD vowing to continue targeting such establishments. The crackdown serves as a response to the concerns of the community and aims to improve the quality of life for residents.
