Oklahoma Trooper Miraculously Survives Terrifying Crash During Traffic Stop

Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released shocking dashcam footage that captured a terrifying incident involving a trooper conducting a routine traffic stop. In the video, Trooper Jesse Gregory can be seen speaking to the driver of the stopped vehicle when another car crashes into them, causing chaos and endangering their lives. The graphic video, which was shared on Facebook by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, has garnered significant attention due to its disturbing nature.

The incident occurred on Thursday along I-40 at Cimarron Road. As Trooper Gregory approached the passenger side of the vehicle, the unexpected crash took place, resulting in him being sent flying. The trooper was tossed along the ground, but miraculously managed to get up and run out of the frame. The collision caused the stopped vehicle to be knocked aside, while the other car flipped over multiple times.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol shared the video as a stark reminder of the severe consequences of distracted or impaired driving. The agency emphasized the importance of the “slow down, move over” law and highlighted that they were currently conducting a distracted driving emphasis in honor of Trooper Nicholas Dees, who lost his life in the line of duty after being struck by a distracted driver.

Fortunately, Trooper Gregory and all three individuals involved in the incident were treated and released from the hospital. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is actively investigating the cause of the crash.

Trooper Gregory, in an interview with KWTV, expressed his shock at the video footage, admitting that he doesn’t even remember how he managed to get back on his feet after being thrown from the vehicle. He credited God for his and the other drivers’ survival, considering the incident to be the scare of his career. However, this was not Gregory’s first brush with danger this year. Earlier in the month, he witnessed another traffic stop crash involving a Canadian County Sheriff’s deputy. The deputy sustained injuries but survived.

Reflecting on these incidents, Gregory expressed his disbelief at the fact that two law enforcement officers had been struck in the same county within a short period. Investigations into both crashes are ongoing.

The crash on January 5 involved the son of Oklahoma Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat. The driver who hit the stopped vehicle and injured the deputy was released from the hospital, while Treat’s son is still recovering but has shown remarkable progress.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol referenced the tragic death of Trooper Nicholas Dees on January 31, 2015, as a reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face on the job. Dees and another trooper were responding to a collision when a driver failed to yield to their warning lights, resulting in a fatal accident. The driver was convicted of first-degree manslaughter and received a suspended sentence.

These recent incidents underscore the risks law enforcement officers encounter daily while performing their duties on the road. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is committed to raising awareness about the importance of safe driving and enforcing laws that protect the lives of both officers and civilians.
