Two brave children, aged 9 and 11, managed to escape from a stolen car and seek help from a passerby, leading to the capture of the suspected car thief in Portland, Oregon. The incident occurred when their father briefly left the car idling with his children inside during a quick stop at a local business. A woman identified as Iosha Dashae Millage, 33, took advantage of the situation and jumped into the driver’s seat, speeding away with the children in the back of the vehicle. The father sustained minor injuries while attempting to stop the theft.
Approximately 10 minutes into the ordeal, the two children took the opportunity to jump out of the car while they were stopped at a red light, grabbing the attention of a good Samaritan. The passerby immediately called 911 and stayed with the children until responding officers arrived. Thankfully, the children did not suffer any injuries and were quickly reunited with their father.
Meanwhile, the stolen car was spotted by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office on Interstate 5 in North Portland. Despite the lights, sirens, and orders to pull over, the alleged car thief refused to comply, initiating a high-speed chase that crossed state lines into Washington. Several law enforcement agencies joined the pursuit, eventually apprehending the suspect near the Northeast 134th Street exit in Vancouver, Washington.
Iosha Dashae Millage, who now faces charges of attempt to elude, reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and fugitive from justice, was also wanted for second-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery, and attempt to elude in connection with the incident in the Portland area. Millage is currently in the process of being extradited back to Multnomah County, where additional charges may be filed.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the potential dangers of leaving a vehicle unattended, even for a brief moment. The bravery and quick thinking of the two children who escaped the stolen car played a crucial role in the apprehension of the suspect, ensuring the safety of themselves and others on the road.
