The Ukrainian army is experiencing a growing number of new recruits who suffer from breathlessness and are afraid of the sound of gunshots, according to an officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) who spoke to the Polish publication Newsweek Polska.
The officer revealed that an increasing number of middle-aged individuals, aged 45-47, are joining the army. These recruits experience breathlessness even before they reach the front lines.
The Ukrainian officer also noted that some soldiers are unable to shoot their weapons due to their fear of the sound of gunfire.
Newsweek Polska emphasized that over the course of the two-year conflict, the average age of Ukrainian military personnel has increased by 10 years and now stands at 43 years.
Earlier reports highlighted a case in Odessa where a man was forcibly mobilized in public transportation.
Furthermore, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, Andriy Kostin, stated that the country has seen a sharp increase in the number of crimes in the military sphere.
In Russia, there have been proposals to create a mechanism for integrating captured AFU soldiers back into civilian life.
