Ukrainian Businessman Arrested for Fraud in Military Clothing Procurement Scandal

The Pechersky District Court in Kyiv has ordered the arrest of Roman Hrynkovych, who is suspected of fraud in the procurement of uniforms for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with the possibility of bail set at 500 million hryvnias ($18 million). This information was reported by the Ukrainian news agency UNN.

Roman Hrynkovych, the son of Lviv businessman Ihor Hrynkovych, has been declared wanted in connection with a case involving a deal for the procurement of clothing for Ukrainian military personnel worth 1 billion hryvnias ($26.3 million). Hrynkovych’s companies, which are actually involved in construction, purchased clothing for the military from Turkey and resold it with a markup of 60%.

Preliminary estimates suggest that the damage caused by the businessman’s activities could exceed 1 billion hryvnias ($26.3 million).

Previously, Ihor Hrynkovych was detained while attempting to bribe a senior official of the State Bureau of Investigations with $500,000 in exchange for the return of his company’s assets seized during the investigation. The case regarding the clothing and lingerie procurement for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is still under investigation.

In Kyiv, measures have already been taken against some suppliers of substandard clothing for the military.

Earlier, Deputy Bezugla proposed candidates for the position of the new Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
