Ingram enlisted in the Navy in 2019 and served with West Coast-based SEAL units. He received various personal and unit citations for his service. Chambers, on the other hand, enlisted in 2012 and also served with West Coast-based SEAL units after completing SEAL qualification training in 2014. He received several awards and decorations, including the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Combat Action Ribbon.
President Biden released a statement expressing his condolences and honoring the sacrifice made by Ingram and Chambers. He emphasized their dedication to protecting their fellow Americans and pledged unwavering support to their families and loved ones.
The missing SEALs were part of a nighttime boarding mission aimed at intercepting shipments of Iranian-made weapons destined for Houthi rebels in Yemen. They were attempting to board a suspicious vessel when high waves caused one of them to fall into the sea. The second SEAL jumped in to rescue his partner, but both ultimately disappeared. The incident is currently under investigation by the Navy.
